From abandoned and abused to happy and healthy, find out what it takes for a kitten rescue to succeed. With a 100% volunteer workforce, our fosters provide safety, regular food and most importantly, love, to each cat or kitten we are able to save.
Our goal? The purrfect furever home!
Overview
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that rescues kittens and cats in the Southern California area.
Our kitties are hand raised in private homes and many are bottle fed babies. They are sweet and socialized because they are cared for by foster parents who are dedicated to raising and finding good homes for these abused, injured, or abandoned cats.
Our kitties come from many different situations. We often rescue kittens from the shelter that are on the brink of being put to sleep. They also come from people who have rescued them from fires, found them on airplanes, in big trucks delivering to warehouses, kittens that were abandoned and left in boxes on sidewalks, or have found abandoned kittens that can no longer be cared for by the local animal control.
Our Mission
- To rescue and rehabilitate abused, abandoned, and neglected cats and kittens, and provide temporary homes.
- To facilitate adoptions to safe, loving, permanent homes.
- To help reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter of our rescues and low cost spay/neuter referrals to the public.

How MeoowzResQ Began
What started with a few bottle-fed kittens quickly became a lifesaving mission.
Founder Dani Ryan began rescuing neonatal kittens from local shelters after learning that unclaimed bottle babies were euthanized if not picked up by 5 PM. With the help of dedicated volunteers, she committed to showing up and saving them. One unforgettable day in April 2001, she rescued 21 kittens scheduled for euthanasia and, together with her team, saved every single one.
As a graphic designer, Dani created the name MeoowzResQ — inspired by a custom license plate idea and a creative vision that turned into a recognizable rescue brand. What began with grassroots networking and “Pet of the Week” emails grew rapidly as more volunteers joined the cause.
MeoowzResQ incorporated in 2007 and received nonprofit status in 2009. Since then, more than 25,000 cats and kittens have been saved, with over 1,500 rescued annually.
At any given time, 500–1,000 cats and kittens are cared for in foster homes supported by more than 160 dedicated fosters. We are endlessly grateful for our foster families , without them, thousands of lives would not have been saved.
